NINATAKA (I WANT)
For nearly a quarter of a century, Anthony Nicholson has been responsible for some of the house genre's finest music, whether under his given name or numerous different aliases. Bursting onto the scene as a producer in the late 90s with early collaborative releases alongside Ron Trent on Nite Grooves and Prescription, since then the Circular Motion founder has released hundreds of tracks and several albums on many of dance music's timeless imprints like King Street, Guidance, Peacefrog, and more.
However, he's perhaps best known for being the core artist on the essential Clairaudience: Samir Hall's legendary NYC platform, which was launched in 97 and released music by Ron Trent, Peven Everett, Taurus/Karl Injex & Michael Johnson, Space 7/David Sampson, Restless Soul/Phil Asher, Needs, and multi instrumentalist William Kurk.
'Ninataka (I Want)' is a stunningly organic production featuring cascading synths and deep chords that's exemplary of Nicholson's many years honing his craft in the studio. The song shuffles along with Amaury Acosta's intricate percussion as well as moments of poignancy courtesy of Chris Rob’s Soulful piano work. At the centre of it all is the scintillating vocals by Koku Gonza and the Chicago native sings beautifully throughout, shifting between Swahili and English at the drop of a hat.
